Can't beat $30 price tag for drop cloth curtains to cover 12 feet of french doors! Throughout our recent homebuilding project, I evaluated every purchase by cost per square foot or linear foot. So I was really pleased to see that these only cost $1.25 per linear foot for 24 feet of curtains. I purchased 2 packages of the 9 X 12 ft. drop cloths at Harbor Freight as soon as they went on sale. I washed and dried them twice in hot water and high heat. Intended to iron them but didn't get past the intention phase since they were unbelievably heavy! I invested in good quality heavy duty curtain rods from Lowes and reinforced the inside of the middle section with a large wooden dowel for added support to prevent sagging from the weight of those drop cloths. (Yep, had to learn that the hard way and then rehang the whole thing few inches higher since my wall anchors had "affected the integrity of the sheetrock" said my favorite carpenter)
It was so easy to "make" these. No sew...just fold over and clip the curtain rings on. After the laundry duty part, it was a simple and quick job to fix up the curtains. I love the casual look of these and they are so thick. They are very effective in blocking the late afternoon sun in the west. I enjoy them equally opened to frame the mahagony french doors or closed up for privacy and temperature control.
Now that we are moved in and the new construction dust has settled, I hope to post a lot more often as I check off that long list of decorating projects!
